And here is an article from The Daily Sentinel:
Citizens planning 'tea party' protest
Monday, March 30, 2009
Hearkening back to America's revolutionary origins, Nacogdoches citizens will join protesters all across the country by holding a "tea party" downtown on April 15 to protest the billions of dollars of government bailouts that they consider "taxation without representation."
The movement, which apparently sprung from rant by CNBC analyst Rick Santelli, has spread to more than 1,000 cities all planning tea party events for April 15.
"This is a grass-roots, non-partisan event," said Mary McCleary, one of the local organizers. "Our purpose is just to show our politicians that a great number of people are concerned with the pork and spending."
According to their press release, while the event is non-partisan, particular emphasis is being placed on "current Congressional economic plans, which are seen as spending unprecedented amounts of borrowed money, primarily on unnecessary political projects."
The event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on April 15 at 203 E. Pilar Street in downtown Nacogdoches. They ask people who are planning to attend to RSVP via the Web site, http://www.etxtaxparty.com/, which also includes information about the event and their intended goals.
The organization's press release says that the reasoning behind naming the event a tea party is to "identify with the colonists who mounted the Boston Tea Party in 1773" protesting illegal taxation by the British government. Speakers are planned from every major political party.
"One will be a Republican, one will be a Democratic and an Independent and a Libertarian," McCleary said. "We want to get all the main parties represented."
McCleary said she could not release the names of those speakers at this time.
"There will be music and voter registration. We want to make that a real positive thing," McCleary said.
The entire event will be videotaped and put on the Internet through the umbrella group.
